Getting around

Metro Line 3 runs from the airport to the centre. Buses, trolleys and the tram cover the rest. The Acropolis area is compact and walkable but steep in places.

Local customs

Meals are eaten late, with dinner from 9pm. Tipping around 5–10% is appreciated. Dress modestly at monasteries and churches.

Travel tips

Visit the Acropolis at opening time or late afternoon to avoid the heat and crowds. Wear shoes with grip — the marble is polished and slippery. A combined ticket covers several archaeological sites.
